The Great Green Wall of Africa

The Great Green Wall of Africa
27 Dec 2017

Eleven countries are planting a wall of trees from east to west across Africa, just under the southern edge of the Sahara desert in a fight to reverse the effects of desertification due to climate change.

The wall will be 4970 miles long and the project has already brought thousands of jobs to poor communities. It has shown great success in Senegal since it began, transforming otherwise unusable land into gardens with tree nurseries and crop planting areas.
